Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi Essay -- Memoir
Growing Up SatrapiIt is hard to tell the story of a typical callowness and it is hard to write a story thatrelates to experiences in everyones lives, but this is exactly what Marjane Satrapiaccomplished in her memoir. Persepolis is the story of a childs growing frompreteen to adult. The specific challenges that Satrapi faces ar unique to hersituation, but we can ask whether they accurately portray the psychologicaldevelopment that children go through. Do her reactions to situations resemble thereactions that some children have to like problems? While reading Satrapisstory, it is necessary to understand that the circumstances she encounters and herreaction to these circumstances parallel how youths around the world react tosimilar situations. Throughout her memoir, Satrapi uses stepping-stones that allchildren use and reaches the same stages of development that psychologists believemost children reach. For these reasons, Persepolis is a believable coming of agestory.Throughout a childs life, many factors influence their socialization. In Persepolis,Satrapi demonstrates the three major microsystems1 that influence a childssocialization family, education, and community.
